Zak Brown has confirmed the sale of the remaining 30% of McLaren Racing.

Bahraini sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat and Abu Dhabi's CYVN Holdings, who already owned McLaren Group, revealed earlier this month that they were seeking to buy the remaining 30% of McLaren Racing which oversees the F1, Indy Car - and from 2027 WEC - operations, and now the deal has been done valuing McLaren Racing at $4.1bn (£3.05bn). Previously, Mumtalakat was the majority shareholder while CYVN had a non-controlling stake.

"It's all done," Brown told Bloomberg. "The sport is on fire, you know, every metric, demand for teams," he added.

"It wasn't long ago that Liberty Media acquired the sport and put a cost cap in place, which kind of ensured everyone's financial stability and on-track stability and competitiveness. It's been a wonderful thing.

"The fans are coming out in the tens and hundreds of millions, sponsors, partners in the sport, unlike we've ever seen before, so the sport is on fire, and long may it continue."

Asked if he fears that the meteoric rise in the last few years might peak, he replied: "I don't think so.

"If you look at sports in general, and I wouldn't say I'm an expert at all sports by any means, but they've only been going north forever," her continued. "Every time there's a record deal, whatever sport it is, everyone goes, 'Oh, that was crazy'. And then you look back and in five years, they've still gone up.

"So I think our sport in particular has a lot of room for growth. We have 24 races, we have demand for probably 30 grands prix, so the demand is strong.

"Our car has the best brands in the world," said the American, "the Mastercards, the Googles, etc.

"The competition is amazing. Last year, four teams won, seven different drivers won multiple races. It's the first time I've seen that in my 30 years of following the sport, so the on-track competition is great.

"The off-track drama, as captured by Netflix, is fantastic. The demand for Grands Prix has never been stronger, so I think the sport, in many ways, is just getting going."

"I keep seeing that picture of a very young Ron Dennis back in the 1960s working as a mechanic for Brabham, and before that Cooper. In a way it's a bit sad that Ron and his partners in Project 4 began this process of getting investment from oil-rich countries. I have a lot of respect for him, because so much of Ron's activities were hidden from the outside world and were a long way from his public persona.

How many current F1 'fans' know who these people were, their stories and the dangers they faced? All good things come to an end, I don't have much interest left in the modern version of F1."
