Cadillac's Herta joins Hitech for 2026 F2 campaign

Cadillac has announced that Colton Herta, its official test driver, will compete for Hitech during his debut F2 Championship season in 2026.

Widely recognized as one of the United States' most accomplished young racing drivers, Herta is a multiple race winner in the NTT IndyCar series, and became the youngest race winner in IndyCar history in 2019 and has since established himself as a consistent front-runner in America's premier open-wheel category. He has earned multiple pole positions, podiums, and victories across a variety of legendary circuits, showcasing his speed, adaptability, and precision.

Joining Hitech - one of F2's most competitive and respected teams - will allow the Californian to immerse himself in the heart of European single-seater racing to which he is no stranger having competed during his junior career in championships including British F4, British F3, Spanish F3, and Euroformula Open, where he racked up an impressive total of 10 wins and 11 pole positions.

Competing on the same circuits as F1 and following much of the F1 calendar, the 2026 F2 season will provide vital experience on some of the world's most demanding tracks, from Monaco and Spa-Francorchamps to Monza and Silverstone.

Throughout the campaign, Herta will continue his duties as Cadillac's test driver, contributing to the team's development program both in the simulator and at selected Grands Prix.

The close alignment of the F2 and F1 schedules will enable seamless integration with Cadillac's engineering and race operations, ensuring that every weekend contributes to his long-term growth within the F1 operation.

Hitech's proven record of developing top-level talent - including multiple Formula 1 graduates - makes it the ideal team for this important next step in Herta's development.

"I'm incredibly excited to officially be joining F2 for the 2026 Formula 2 season," said Herta. "This is an amazing opportunity to develop my skills in European racing and to measure myself against some of the best young drivers in the world.

"Racing on the same weekends as Formula 1 will give me first-hand experience of that environment and help me grow as part of the Cadillac F1 family. I'm very grateful to Cadillac and Hitech for their trust and support and I can't wait to get started."

"Colton has already shown exceptional talent and professionalism throughout his career," added Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports and Cadillac Formula 1 Team. "His move into Formula 2 with Hitech is a natural and important next step in his development towards Formula 1.

"Competing in F2 will not only strengthen his race craft in the European environment but also allow for greater integration with our team as he continues to support us with his testing and simulator duties.

"We are proud of Colton's commitment to success in European racing, and we look forward to seeing him take on this exciting new challenge with Hitech - a team with a proven history of success in junior categories."

"Smart move, particularly as tire management is going to be so important.
Herta doesn't need to win the F2 championship, he just needs to learn as much as he can as fast as he can."

"I sincerely hope that this gutsy move works out for Colton Herta. I've seen many of his Indycar races and a couple of the driver coaches think that he is "the real deal", as Americans like to say.

Years ago, another impressive driver, Roberto Moreno, took a step back from F1 testing/almost a drive to making the most of a F3000 Ralt drive that turned into F1 drives, a Ferrari F1 test driving deal that impressed many to get him into a Benetton seat (ok, he got screwed on that deal) and on to a stellar Indycar and Sportscar career. "Supersub" impressed many after that Briatore Benetton fiasco, come to think of it...

Go get 'em, Colton! Impressed with the gutsy move!"
