Ahead of the Shootout the air temperature is 31 degrees C, while the track temperature is 53 degrees.

Leclerc set the pace in practice, edging out Verstappen, Piastri and Hamilton. Over the course of the hour both Mercedes drivers suffered engine issues, with Antonelli failing to run on the softs.

As expected, the teams have brought a raft of upgrades, particularly Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren, and they appear to be paying off.

Track limits were a major issue earlier, with drivers caught out at various corners, with many also experiencing lock-ups.

Aside from the upgrades, something else new for this weekend are the refinements to the energy management rules, and with one of the objectives being to allow the drivers to push harder, particularly in Q3, the next hour will be a litmus test.

The lights go green and first out is Bottas, followed by Ocon, Bearman, Stroll and Gasly. Norris is the first of the big guns to head out, his McLaren teammate right behind.

Bottas posts a benchmark 32.317, a low benchmark. As Gasly goes quicker, the yellows are waved as Stroll goes off at Turn 17, compromising a number of the drivers behind.

Leclerc posts the first serious time of the session, a 29.290, as Hamilton goes second, only to be demoted when Antonelli splits the Ferraris with a 29.312.

Verstappen, running Red Bull's version of the Macarena wing, goes fourth with a 29.81, while Russell can only manage a 30.465.

Stroll's off and the subsequent yellows have put a number drivers out of synch, among them the McLaren pair.

Norris goes top with a 28.723, as Piastri crosses the liner at 29.169 to go second.

With less than two minutes remaining, Colapinto, Lindblad, Lawson, Alonso, Stroll and Bottas have yet to post times.

Colapinto goes eighth with a 30.386 as Leclerc slits the McLarens with a 28.733.

Lindblad goes twelfth just as the chequered flag is waved.

Bearman goes tenth and Ocon seventeenth.

Hadjar goes tenth and Bottas twentieth.

Albon makes it by the skin of his teeth, which is bad news for Lawson.

Quickest is Norris, ahead of Leclerc, Piastri, Hamilton, Antonelli, Russell, Verstappen, Gasly, Hulkenberg and Hadjar.
